NEW DRAW TIMES AND NIGHT STRUCTURE 2012:

 

Monday Late - Draw Time 8:00pm

This is a Men's league. Juniors and Seniors are welcome. Good fun but serious competition is the goal.


This league will consist of 10 teams.

Winning team earns 20 points
Losing team earns 10 points.

Regular season

Play will consist of 2 - 9 game round robins.
(Each team plays every other team)

18 game total during regular season.

Playoffs

Top 2 teams will compete in Club Championship.

There are 4 wildcard spots available but these spots are shared between all leagues. The 4 teams with the highest point toals in all the leagues but did not earn at spot in the Club Championship will play in the finals.

Club Championship finals will be a double knock out format.

Club Champions win $400, and team jackets with Club Champion crests.

All remaining teams will play the Club Consolation event.

Keep winning to claim the $200 prize.

This will be a single knockout format where the loser will enter the last chance, Beer Event.

Keep winning to claim the prize of a case of beer for each player, 4 cases total.

The losers will be have completed the season.

Women’s League Early Draw - 6pm

The WKCC Women's League offers a fun evening of curling with a good shot of friendly competition!

Draw times are 6:00 PM every Wednesday.

This league will consist of 10-12 teams.

Play will consist of 2 round robins.

General Curling Rules - 2012-2013 Season

 

Regular Season Format

1.    All teams will play an 18 game schedule. For each game played a team will receive 20 points for a win, and 10 points for a loss. In the event of a tie, the game will proceed to an extra end to decide a winner. A winner must be declared for each game, there will be no splitting of points.

2.    Total points at the end of the season will be used to determine playoff eligibility. Skips are requested to mark wins and losses immediately following the completion of each game.

3.    All games will be eight ends, with a bell at the one hour forty minute mark. The bell will limit the game to the end in play and one more, to a maximum of eight ends. An end will be deemed completed and the next end in play when the last rock of an end crosses the nearest tee line at the point of delivery.

4.    Rinks of four players, but not more than six players will be accepted. Teams may declare a fifth player, with a sixth player required to pay the applicable affiliation fee. All final team rosters must be declared by December 31, 2012. Changes after this date will only be approved in consultation with the Ice and Draw Committee, and the Membership Chair.

5.    Spares- A rink must have present at least two team members to be eligible for spares to be used. Where possible, teams should enlist spares from the club membership. A spare must play lead; in the case of two spares they must play lead and second. (***Please refer to the playoff section for specific rules around spares in the playoffs).

6.    Teams from each night will play each other in a round robin (or modified round robin) format. The exact number of times each team plays an opponent will be determined by the number of teams registered for that specific night. All scheduling is at the discretion of the Ice and Draw Committee.

7.    Draw Times – The following are the scheduled Draw times for each night:

Monday Late -   8:00 p.m.  (Bell at 9:40)

Tuesday Late -   8:00 p.m.  (Bell at 9:40)

Wednesday Women’s League 6:00 p.m. (Bell at 7:40)

Wednesday Late-  8:15 p.m. (Bell at 9:55)

Thursday Late -      8:00 p.m. (Bell at 9:40)

 

**Special Notes**

 

Wednesday Women’s League – All decisions in regard to competition and playoff structure will be made by the membership of the Women’s League

 

Thursday Men’s League

-         All games will be played on Sheets #2, #3, and #4;

-         Teams are asked to play their games as scheduled;

-         Any planned variation from the schedule needs to be approved by the Ice and Draw Committee and the Ice Maker. Reasons: a) end sheets may not be scraped or pebbled; and b) end sheets may have been reserved/ rented out as practice ice.

-         Teams will be guaranteed 9 early games and 9 late games, though the schedule may dictate that they may not always alternate consecutively;

-         Please check the schedule to ensure your team arrives for the correct draw each week.

8. Free Guard Zone- The Four Rock “Free Guard Zone” will be in effect for all competition.

9. Rules not Covered – Curl Manitoba (MCA) rules shall apply to all rules and regulations not covered herein.

10. Interpretation- Where a dispute arises as to the interpretation of any curling rule the decision of the Ice and Draw Committee will be final.

 

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFFS

A total of 16 teams will qualify for the Club Championship Playoffs, based on points accumulated during the regular season. Playoff berths will be awarded as follows (based on overall participation on each individual night):

Monday Late -   4 Berths

Tuesday Late -   4 Berths

Wednesday Late-   4 Berths

Thursday  Men’s -  4 berths

**Only these sixteen teams will be eligible to win their respective Night Championships

The Men’s Club Championship will be  a 30 game, double knock-out format (as in previous years).

Consolation Event – All teams not qualifying for the Club Championship will be eligible to compete in the Consolation Event. This will be a single knock out event.

Beer Event – Teams who lose their first game in the Consolation Event will be eligible to play in the Beer Event. This will follow a single knock out format.

 

NO CHANGES WILL BE MADE TO THE PLAYOFF SCHEDULE ONCE POSTED. Should conflicts arise, in scheduling or availability of teams, appeals can be made to the Ice and Draw Committee. ALL DECISIONS BY THE ICE AND DRAW COMMITTEE ARE FINAL. The Committee will attempt to anticipate any conflicts in scheduling when preparing the draw, and may consult with teams in regard to availability while preparing the draw.

Playoff Spare Rules

Team rosters must be declared by December 31, 2012 as indicated in the prior section of General Curling Rules.

All spares utilized must be members of the West Kildonan Curling Club.

A curler cannot be used as a spare in the Club Championship if they are eligible to participate, or have participated with their own team at any point in the Club Championship round.

All spares will throw lead rocks, or in the case of two spares, lead and second rocks.

Any disputes in regard to eligibility should be brought to the attention of the Ice and Draw Committee.

 

Rules of Curling for General Play

 

 

 

Pre 2012 season - OLD DRAW TIMES AND STRUCTURE:

Game Times 

Monday through Thursday there are two draws early draw to commence at 6:50 p.m. and the late draw at 9:00 p.m.  

All games will be eight ends, except that a bell will be rung at 8:30 p.m. on the early draw and at 10:45 p.m. on the late draw. The bell will limit the game to the end in play and one more, with a maximum of eight ends. An end will be deemed completed, and the next end in play, when the last rock of an end crosses the nearest sweeping line at the point of delivery. In the event of a tie the game will proceed until a point is scored to decide a winner. 

Season Format 

There will be 19 games in the regular season, in three rounds. 

Round ‘1’ consists of two divisions, A & B, for 9 games of round robin play. Round ‘2’ and ‘3’ consists of four divisions. A,B,C, D and consists of 5 games of round robin play with one interlocking game between A & B and C & D in each round.

(A1 vs. B1, C1 vs. D1, and A2 vs. B2…etc). After each round, teams will be reseeded based on the points earned.   

Points earned in each division are as follows:

A division win = 20 points, A loss = 10 points

B division win = 20 points, B loss = 10 points

C division win = 20 points, C loss = 10 points

D division win = 20 points, D loss = 10 points 

Interlock games – Wins earn higher point value, Losses earn lower point value. 

The Club Championship will see the four top point teams from Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights earning berths in this event plus the two top teams from Wednesday night. Two wildcard teams will also be added from any night with the highest point standing. This will round out the number of teams in this event.

This is a 30 game Men’s Championship Event. The last team alive on the “A” side without a loss from their respective night will be the night’s Champion. The “A” side winner will not play on the “B” side thus resulting in a A-B final. This would be the Men’s Club Championship Game for the last night of curling. 

Consolation and Beer Event 

The Consolation will be a 53 game single knock out event made up of all the teams that did not make the Club Championship. 

The Beer Event will be a 28 game single knock out event made up of all the teams that lost their first game in the Consolation Championship
